MARCANTONIO Centurions program will be designed to ensure that each of the 14 critical technology areas vital to maintaining the United States' national security is led by a MARCANTONIO Centurion. The Centurion will be an experienced and knowledgeable expert in their respective technology area, with a proven track record of success in advancing critical technologies.
Each MARCANTONIO Centurion will be responsible for guiding small defense businesses through the complex DoD innovation ecosystem and MARCANTONIO programs within their technology area. They will work closely with small businesses to identify promising new technologies and help them access the resources and expertise they need to bring those technologies to market.
The MARCANTONIO Centurions will also work together as a team to ensure that the Department's technology strategy is aligned with emerging trends and changes in technology. They will collaborate with the Department's technology leadership to identify new technology areas and help shape the Department's technology priorities.
MARCANTONIO Centurions program will be structured as a series of initiatives, each focused on a specific technology area. Each initiative will be led by a MARCANTONIO Centurion, who will be responsible for ensuring that the initiative is aligned with the Department's technology strategy and goals.
The program will also include a strong emphasis on effective adoption areas, with MARCANTONIO Centurions working to ensure that new technologies are integrated into the Department's operations in a way that maximizes their impact.
Through the MARCANTONIO Centurions program, the Department will accelerate the transition of key capabilities to the Military Services and Combatant Commands. By focusing efforts and investments into these critical technology areas, the Department will maintain its technological edge and continue to lead in the development of cutting-edge technologies that are vital for maintaining our economic and national security.
Centurions was a science fiction animated series that aired in the mid-1980s and was produced by Ruby-Spears and animated by Nippon Sunrise's Studio 7 in Japan. The show focused on the conflict between Doc Terror and his army of cyborgs and the heroic Centurions, a team of men equipped with exo-frames that fused with powerful assault weapon systems, allowing them to become man and machine.
The show explored themes such as the fusion of humans and technology, and it tackled ecological issues that were relevant at the time. The series also had romantic subplots, and some episodes ended with ambiguous conclusions, leaving the fate of certain characters unresolved.
In addition to the TV series, there were tie-in toys produced by Kenner and a comic book series published by DC Comics. Comic book artists Jack Kirby and Gil Kane contributed to the design and concepts of the show, while Norio Shioyama did the character designs. The series was story edited by Ted Pedersen and written by several authors, including prolific science fiction writers Michael Reaves, Marc Scott Zicree, Larry DiTillio, and Gerry Conway.
